Playing with Duplos

Scotland and Tatiana were just at the library for a preschool book reading and the Duplo play.  Duplo is the bigger Legos.  The book had really big letters.  Tatiana was reading the book out loud.  There some kids that go to the expensive half-day preschool, and their mothers were amazed.

Then they went to play with the Duplos.  Scotland was amazed at how different boys and girls were.  Tatiana wanted all the animals and people.  I asked what the other girls thought of that thinking that she was hogging them.  But he said they liked that, because she brought them to where  all the girls were playing with a little playhouse that Scotland had built.  But the boys, they wanted to play with all the wheels.

Washing Dress = It gets shorter

This morning she wore the black dress with the ballerina decorations.

She said, "Every time you wash this dress it gets shorter".

 She said it so serious.

 I looked it is a size 3.

Tatiana made a 6 year old mom jealous

Tatiana's visit to a peds eye dr: "Tatiana made the mother of a 6-year-old jealous. They were in the waiting room and they had a tv  turned to a kid's show. Scotland asked if she'd rather read. She said she would. Scotland had her read the first sentence on each page. "

Rescue Stuffed Animal

"When Tatiana & Scotland went to IKEA Tatiana wanted to 'rescue' a stuffed animal. Some kid had probably picked it up, and the parent dumped it before the checkout so it was sitting on a pile of boxes.
Scotland said it had a job and was guarding that stuff . "

August 28 - IKEA

We went to IKEA yesterday to buy some kitchen cabinets.  Tatiana went to the kids play area for the first time.  She didn't want to go, but then she was having lots of fun running around a fake tree when we picked her up.

August 27

We went to Ty's house yesterday so Scotland could do a few little things.  They have a kitten.  Watching Tatiana and the kitten play was the highlight of the day for Ty, Scotland and I.  We were in the stone living room and Tatiana was running around the couch.  Sometimes the kitten just rested and waited for Tatiana to come around again

August 26

Scotland and Tatiana drove out to Tyland to replace a sink.  She got sweaty in the car, so she needed a bath.  She played played played.  I told her to open the drain and that when the water was gone, then it would be belly time.  [8/27/2014 10:38:36 AM] Susan Hawthorne: Then I'd ask if the water drained.  In answer, she would splash the water.  Eventually it didn't splash no matter how hard she tried.  In her bath toys is a dishwashing soap bottle.  She grabbed the bottle and dumped out the water in front of her so that she could try to make a splash to prove that the water hadn't drained.  It was cute

Aug 25

Tatiana stopped an aerobics class with her cuteness.  Scotland has done some work for a lady with an exercise studio.  He dropped off something and Tatiana stood in the door of an aerobics class.  When they saw her, the class stopped so that they could coo over her.

Last weekend in August

Tatiana and I went to the Children's Aquarium Saturday.  It is in Fair Park and they are setting up for the State Fair.  Because of that, they have fences up all over the place and at one point I could see the Aquarium but there was a fence in the way.  So, we kept walking looking for an opening.  And walking and walking.
Security in a golf cart comes up and we are "trespassing".   He figures out I am tired and lost and takes us in his golf cart through the locked gate by the aquarium.
What does Tatiana remember best about that day?
She finally got to ride "in the front seat"
Scotland asked her later about the weekend.  She said that we went to the Aquarium and we "walked walked walked walked walked walked".  He asked about getting a ride.  She got chipper and said, "I got to ride in the front seat".
The aquarium itself was nice.  It is just perfect for her age.  There was a tank of stingrays and they were used to people feeding them so they begged at the edge.  I wanted to leave something special for next time so we didn't buy any food.

Sunday was the first day of Sunday School.  She was not well-behaved at all, it was embarrassing.  I was complaining to Scotland and he pointed out that she often has a problem the first day of anything.  The first ballet class, the first swim class.  So, hopefully, she will be back to her normal self next time.  At Sunday School because it was the first class, all the kids went into the church for a blessing.  Tatiana was the last kid in.  She looked adorable in the red silk dress that she picked out.  After church we were walking into the fellowship hall and I overheard some older people talking about how cute the kids were and that in particular she had noticed, and then she pointed to Tatiana.

August 20th

Yesterday was a pretty normal day.  She was quiet but not napping when I got home.  They had gone to a big nice park in Dallas.  At one point she was playing cat, and another little girl starting kicking sand on her.  At first Tatiana didn't worry about it.  Then she realized that the girl was doing it on purpose.  She walked up to Scotland and told him to tell the other girls mommy or daddy to stop doing that.  When Scotland found the mom, she'd had her nose in her cell phone.  The other mom fussed a bit, and then Scotland said the next time Tatiana had permission to hit the little girl. The mother kept her daughter in a different area of the park.

At home she played with Legos with her Daddy.   She played a little bit with me, but I don't Get Legos the way her Daddy does.  I'd gotten a Dot-to-Dot book from Amazon and she did about half of them while in my lap.  She ate all her dinner so she got ice cream and half a "Blob" for dessert.  The mints from Teri got melty this last time.  They still taste great, but each grouping of 5 melted into a blob.  The word Blob makes Tatiana giggle.  So instead of asking for mints or chocolate she asks for a Blob.

Yesterday morning she got out both cartons of eggs.  I'd used some from both of them.  She wanted them all to be in the same carton.  But, they wouldn't fit.  She didn't break any.  Then she put them back in the fridge

I had to put one of her toys away.  It was a baby today that made animal noises when you pushed the buttons.  She was standing on it, and it was making lots of noises.  I told her she could use her feet, but not stand on it.  She still stood on it, so I put it away on the furnace.

Lately during naptime she puts on one of her fancy dresses.  Only she puts them on backward so she can do the zippers.

August 19th

Yesterday Scotland and Tatiana tried to go to the Zoo.  But, they hadn't realized it was "Dollar Day".  They didn't even go in.  They had to let two trains go by, before a train was empty enough to let them get off to come home.  They went to the Cityplace station.  Tatiana told me that they went "Up and Down and Up and Down".  This was said with hand-motions and a tone of voice that said she loved it.  Then they rode the trolley.  She explained to me that they are also called streetcars because they go on the streets with the cars.  Scotland said she told me the exact same words he'd told her.  Because she was good, she got a bath when they got home.  School starts on Monday, so they can have a nice visit next week.
Last night I threw out an envelope.  She thought I was throwing out her card, and she got upset.  The three of us played many rounds of puppy bingo.  She did some coloring on some princess pages.  And on the chalkboard.  At one point she had a drawing of two people and they were smiling.  Then she added the extra line to turn it into a smiling open mouth and she said they were talking.  There were always two people in her pictures.  Mommy/Tatiana, Daddy/Tatiana, or Daddy/Mommy.  In the Daddy/Mommy drawing there were balloons for some reason.

3rd Ballet Recital and Swimming

We will be going to Tatiana’s 3rd Ballet Recital on Saturday, July 25th.

Tatiana did TWO laps in the lap pool all by herself!

Scotland said that it wasn't pretty, but she did it.

She had an audience when she did the laps.  Everyone heard her jump in and thought she would have to be rescued.

In class, she also did a few side breathings with pretty arm movements and kicks.  Just a few.

They are thinking of moving her up to the class that starts at 5 years old.

Last weekend

The highlights from last weekend.

  1. She recently started to really draw.  It was amazing.  She went from being uninterested in drawing shapes to drawing page sized happy faces with feet and hair.  She seems to have fun with the hair.  We need a scanner to scan in her art so we will remember it always.  When she woke up from Friday, she showed me her smiley face drawings and she was particularly proud of the one with "crazy hair".  I think we have Sam's to thank.  When they check the receipt and a kid is in the cart they draw a smiley face.  I used to be annoyed by the delay.  Then one day she was upset that they didn't draw it, so I drew one when we got to the car.  Scotland said that if they didn't draw it, he asked them to.
  2. Saturday morning she asked me if I had to go to work that day.  When I said No, that it was a day for Tatiana and Mommy, her face let up.
  3. We went to a playground before nap.  The weather was beautiful.  It was just us.  Then this really unfriendly girl showed up.  We were playing Butterflies, which basically involves flapping your wings slowly as you "flutter" around.  The girl did not want to play butterflies or play with Tatiana on the playset.  Although, we did get them to play chase.  I actually saw Tatiana winded.  The other girl was with her grandfather, and he was a little embarrassed.
  4. You would think after that, she would have napped.  But, no.  During the post-nap room clean, I got the idea to box up the last of her diapers/training pants.  She saw the diaper inserts that are basically fabric maxi-pads.  She asked so cutely if she could play with them.  How could I say No?
  5. Then we put her toys into the empty space.  She wanted to put all her stuffed animals in there too.
  6. That night when I put her to bed, I went to the kitchen.  On the way back, I saw that her light was on.  She was getting her stuffed animals.
  7. That reminds me of the recent change in her nighttime routine.  I think it was Thursday night, after books when I turned out the light I noticed that she was very tired.  I asked if she'd rather we cuddle in her bed than have cradle time in the chair.   Since then, she has wanted to cuddle in the bed.  I think she is getting too big for my lap.
  8. A recent favorite thing is "How many kisses do you want tonight?"  We got a cute book with that title from the library.   Animal parents ask their babies how many kisses do they want tonight.  Then at the end the last page is blank except for "How many kisses do you want tonight?"  She has said 100, and I just give bunches, and then start counting in the 90's.  Last night she said 5.  Then she asked me and told me to say "One loud kiss on my chin"  It was adorable.
  9. Sunday school was great.  I was assistant teacher.  Tatiana was a little social butterfly.  At the end, she was playing with the daughter of the other asst teacher.  They decided to hide together in the bathroom.  Then were upset when others entered.  So they went into a stall.  They were taught Duck Duck Goose.  Only this version was "Knock" "Knock" "Jesus Loves You".  I was adorable to see a kid saying "Jesus loves you" sweetly to another kid.  The teacher wanted them to run around the rug we were sitting on.  But all the kids ran all over the room.  It was a new experience for all the kids.

One thing funny.  Last night as Tatiana was settling into bed and I was picking out the bedtime books she saw one of her Easter dresses in the "too small" box.  She was distressed and asked why it was there.  I told her it was because the dress was too small.  She thought for a minute and said "I have other dresses."
Scotland went to do more work for Chuck and Marcia but he couldn't take Tatiana so he did it in the evening.  So, it was Tatiana and I.  She was eating when I got there.

Jan 15th

Yesterday Scotland and Tatiana went swimming.  She isn't signed up for a swimming class, and the classes haven't started yet.  So, it was just Scotland and Tatiana going swimming.

Then they went to McDonald's.  Just as before they were going to leave a really nice girl came in and played with Tatiana.  They had a tea party with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.  Everything was imaginary.  They played so nicely that Scotland asked about playdates.  But the other little girl was with her Grandma and the girl doesn't have a regular schedule.  Much to the dismay of the Grandma.

After her nap we played in the living room.   Her favorite toy right now is the T-Rex.  She has even hugged it as she's gone to sleep.  I have no idea why.  She also has been playing with the baby doll accessory set, particularly the baby diaper.

Day off and went to the Zoo

I had to take a day off of work because I stopped accumulating vacation time.  We picked Tuesday because the weather was supposed to be nice.  It was.

We went to the zoo.  All three of us.  It was lots of fun.  We have a family membership and Tatiana and Scotland have gone often.  She doesn't spend much time in front of each animal, so I didn't get to read very much.  I particularly liked the ant eater.  It had a big pretty tail.  ABCMouse has an ant eater game where you point out the black ants for it to eat (It doesn't like the red ants)   She amazed Scotland by knowing immediately what it was.  They'd never seen it before either.  She likes to play Hide and Seek in the Lizards/Snakes area.  She looks until she finds them and then says "I see you!".  At one point I said to Scotland "Haven't we been down this bay already?"  But, we hadn't.  All the snakes, frogs and lizards started to look alike. She did not like the tigers roaring at each other.  There were two in completely different areas and they were roaring back and forth.

We ate lunch sitting by the pink flamingos.  That is part of their routine.

They train ride is wonderful.  On the way back Scotland and Tatiana  sang the farmer song and Tatiana was coming up with some strange things the farm had.  Like a House, and paint.  But, she nixed my Doggie idea, and Scotland Duck idea.

In the next couple of week, I need to take another day off and we'll probably go back.
